John Mickel’s spectacular crash in the opening rounds of the 2023 UK National Legends Championship at Cadwell Park was terrifying. But, we can confirm the race goes on. John is ok, however he does need time to recover. Yet, even without him Mickel Motorsport will be heading to Brands Hatch for the ‘Coronation’ race weekend!
Here’s the inside story …
High speed crash at Cadwell Park
Allswage was trackside at Cadwell Park when John Mickel’s 5/8th scale 34 Ford Coupe appeared to ‘take-off’. We witnessed the terrifying high-speed rolls through the air before the pocket rocket came to rest on its side.
Thankfully Mickel was quickly pulled from the wreckage and rushed to Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby. Then we waited anxiously for news.
Fortunately, John was relatively unscathed by the accident, leaving hospital after a couple of days to recover at home.
Jack Parker, Mickel Motorsport and Allswage
Understandably, the accident left questions about whether our Allswage van racking livery and the #4 Quiksteel Legend car would be seen on the track again this season.
So, we were thrilled with the news that Jack Parker, will take John’s place and Mickel Motorsport will be back on the track for the Coronation weekend.
Jack is no stranger to Mickel. His racing career started out with Mickel Motorsport and Legends in 2012.
So, amongst the Coronation festivities we can all look forward to seeing him compete in the Legends Elite Cup, supporting the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch over the May 6/7 weekend.
John Mickel Our Legends Hero
John is naturally disappointed that he can’t race again this season, but we’re all grateful that he’s doing ok. John Mickel will always be our Legends hero.
John stressed, “I am obviously very disappointed not to be allowed to drive at Brands Hatch […]”
And added, “It was important for me to ensure my marketing partners are represented at the BTCC rounds, especially as there is live coverage on ITV and ITV4 of the event.”
Allswage wishes Jack Parker and Mickel Motorsport the best of luck for the Coronation weekend racing at Brands Hatch.
